Why must stator make up so many pieces of laminated steel sheet?

I realise that stators are made up of many pieces of steel sheet. Why is it so? why cant stators be made up of one whole piece of steel instead?

Study the concepts of "skin effect" and "eddy current loss" and you will see why. The same is true for transformers by the way.

thanks..i read up on skin effect and eddy current lost. Now i understand why is it so
