The serial server can be configured to act as two virtual serial ports, an RS232 port and an RS485 port.
Connection to the serial server is via the ethernet port and provided that the "serial IP for Netbiter" driver is installed and configured correctly, the two serial ports can be set up as two COM ports i.e. COM2 and COM3.
COM2 can be configured as RS232 for programming PLCs and COM3 as the RS485 port for monitoring traffic on the RS485 bus. This is particularly useful when debugging serial communications issues.

The port mapping on the Serial Server works with some software that will not work with some USB serial port converters.
