ok here is what i'm trying to do in ms excel.

say i have a table as follows

Coln A Coln B Coln C
1Time "Power kW" "Power Factor"
2 50 0.9
3 60 0.8
4 100 0.6
5 300 0.7
6 70 0.5
7 90 0.1

I then go in a different cell foruma "=MIN(C2:C7)" that would give the minimum power factor, which in this case would be 0.1

I want to know what the power kW (Coln cool.gif and time (Coln A) is at this point in time where the minimum occurred. (I can't just go =MIN(B2:B7) that would just give 50 which isn't where the min pf occurred... get what i mean?)

What forumla/method do I need to do this, as in get the cell next to the cell of min?

Please help *begs*

Thanks in advance excel wiz master.laugh.gif

Compare the operating costs of a 750kW DC motor being supplied with 500 Volts AC versus a 600kW AC motor being supplied with 415 Volts. Do not worry about Maintenance / Repair costs.

Need
a. Information sources
b. Any assumptions made eg. Full load, ½ load, full speed, ½ speed

any ideas where I can get those?

VAR compensator

What are they? and what's the difference between using these bad boys compared to just using caps...? (for power factor correction)

What bits of info do you need to work backwards (reverse enggineer) and work out the power factor for a motor?

(so you don't have to install a meter which would be expensive) to work out the power factor.

Thanks in advance. laugh.gif

Hi everyone I am bookworm. I'm new to this forum.

From the posts I’ve seen this is a power engineeringish forum which is just what I need.

I’m considering installing power factor correction. Just not sure where or in what configuration. Where can I install the power factor correction for a system where there’s more than just one meter and one substation.

If there is say 3 or 4 meters and 3 or 4 substations should I install the power factor correction unit (automatic step controller - caps)

Has anyone worked on this before? I’ve read through a lot of articles online, it’s hard to find anything on this topic. If you have any advice, even if it’s just a point in the right direction, maybe a link or case study? That would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
