MCBs or Miniature Circuit Breakers are intended to give protection against overloads and short circuits, which can cause damage to cables and equipment.

MPCBs or Motor Protection Circuit Breakers are intended to give protection against overloads and short circuits & Motor protection function.

MCBs are essentially used to protect cables, MPCBs are used to protect motors, so in addition to the short circuit protection they have trip curves suitable for motor protection..

Best regards,

I have some queries on this also. Is the shortcircuit protection ofered by MCCB/MCB any different than offered by MPCB?

In case of tripping of MPCB how does one know whether it has tripped on short circuit ( interphase or other)or on routine overload as both the functions are built into the same device

Regards
