Why did the power factor of motor drops down substantially during starting of 3 phase induction motor. How the power factor is related with voltage and current. kindly clarify with example for 3 pase 415 v 75 kw star/delta motor.

Your motor acts as a heavy reactive power sink when it starts, as u require to build but the magnetics , *beep* lot of amout of flux is required hence reactive power demand shoots up. This may be the one of the reasons.
