Does anyone know of any study information available for download/viewing on auto-transformers and associated calculations? I have a study section to complete on the subject and have very little knowledge.

First of all, have you had a good look at the papers on this site. There is a page on motor starting and this includes the auto transformer. If you haven't already done so, read the sections on motor control and motor starting.
