I would like to know how to wire this pump. Could it be wired 110v or 230v ? What size breaker and what size wire shoud I use for each? It is a pump for a residential sprinkler system. Which voltage should I use and what is the advantage of each? The pump will be controled by a pressure switch.. do you anything about them? This is a tall order and I thank you for your help!!

I can probably help you with this problem but I will need more information. This should probably be handled on a U2U basis.

Contact me if you still need the help.

The wire must be 125% of the motor FLA as listed in NEC 430.148. 2HP @ 120v= 24 amps and 12 amps @ 230v. Just take amps times 125% and select wire from NEC table 310.16 (use 75degC column). Your OCP (breaker) is set at 250% of FLA per 430.148. You can size up if the answer does not correspond to a standard breaker size(as listed in 240.6)

As far as which is better there is no correct answer. Rule of thumb is use highest available voltage. THis will allow for smaller conduit / wire size as well as give greater tolerance for allowable voltage drop.

Dont fall for the lower amps = lower useage cost. You pay for watts not amps and there is allways 746 watts in a horsepower regardless of amps / volts, it all equals out.
