If the capacitor of a plant is over corrected such that plant net power factor become leading, what will be its effect on the electrical system as well as the supply company. kindly give me a suitable answere, thank u. |

Generally, a leading power factor attracts the same penalties as a lagging power factor.
There should be no problems with a leading power factor under most supply connections, but some reactive supplies may be affected by a leading power factor. A lagging power factor causes an increase in supply current. A Leading power factor also increases the supply current. Best regards, Mark. -------------------- Mark Empson administrator

The electricity supply utilities generally specify a power factor of 0.8 to 0.9.
Compensation beyond cos ϕ = 1 (over-compensation Qc > Q1) must be avoided as this gives rise to capacitive reactive power which stresses the conductors in the same way as inductive reactive power, and in addition, unwelcome voltage increases can occur.
