Hello

I'm looking for references to modelize soft-starter for an harmonics analysis. The question about negligeable effets of soft-stater is irrevelent. The utility provider demand proofs of it for the particular studied installation.

Thank you

Hello Morquea

I am not aware of any modeling that has been done in this manner, but the device is simple although the effects may not be.
Perhaps together we can develop the model required?

Best regards,
Mark.

This has been done, but in reference to SCR controllers for heating applications where the phase angle is maintained indefinitely. You can adapt this model for a ramping soft starter.
Tom Blair's paper on SCR phase angle control
The overall paper is about modeling the waveform, but he does discuss using it to determine harmonics. I wrote a white paper based on this issue when I was at Motortronics, but I don't think they retained anything useful like that. I'll look on my old PC to see if I still have my copy.
