Hello jjj

A Variable Frequency Drive is a variable voltage variable frequency controller that is designed to vary the speed of an induction motor.

A Soft starter is a variable voltage fixed frequency controller that is designed to reduce voltage start an induction motor.

If you application requires the motor operate at variable speeds, use a VFD. If you application requires that the motor operate at a fixed speed, use a soft starter.

See www.LMPhotonics.com for more information.

Best regards,
Mark.
