How would I determine the correct current that a motor would draw if it ran without a load ??

Hi portky
The only way is to measure it, or to get tha data from the data sheet or test sheet prepared by the motor manufacturer. The no load current is essentially the magnetising current of the motor and for small low speed motors, can be as high as 60% and for large 2 pole motors can be as low as 20%. There is no simple calculation that I am aware of to tell you what this will be. Best regards, -------------------- Mark Empson administrator
