I have a motor from China 12 lead and the label says it can be connected either low or high voltage 220/440 in Delta or Wye. So there are 4 different options of which 2 are dictated bye supply voltage. So we are left with delta or Wye for running. What are the characteristics of the 2 connections? The application is a spindle motor on a machine tool.

Hello Darren

Welcome to the forum.

There is no real advantage of using delta or star provided that the flux in the iron is correct.
Motors will often be made with six wires so that they can either be star/delta started, or can be configured to run on two different voltages.
It is not normal to provide a 12 wire motor to give you a choice of star connection or delta connection on two different voltages. I suspect that there is another reason that you need to look at.
I wonder if this motor is designed for dual voltage and dual speed??

Some motors, are Dahlander connected motors such that you connect on delta for high speed and double star for low speed.

I would check that the speed is the same for all connections.
Can you send all the data off the name plate? this may give us a clue.

Best regards,
