Are high slip motors more prone to insulation failures than normal slip motors (design

Hello subrao
The slip of an induction motor is essentially a function of the resistance of the rotor and would generally be independent of the stator, so no I would not expect the slip of the motor to have any impact on the insulation failure of motors on VFDs. High slip motors will however, be more sensitive to harmonic currents and this can increase the heating in the rotor. Under extreme cases, this rotor heating could result in sufficient heating in the stator to accelerate the aging of the stator windings. With modern VFDs, the harmonics in the output are not an issue until you operate the motor above rated speed. Best regards, -------------------- Mark Empson administrator
