kevin
I would like to know if a sychronous motor(3MW) with a constant load is adjusted to unity power factor by adjusting the DC fiield excitation will remain at unity power factor when the motor is started up again with the same DC voltage. I am trying to find out if it is necessary to manually adjust the DC field excitation every time the motor is started up to obtain unity power factor again. Thanks Kevin
marke
Hello kevin Welcome to the forum. There should be no need to alter the excitation provided that nothing else has changed. In many installations, the escitation is used to correct, not just the motor, but the whole installation. Under those conditions, the excitation may be altered to correct the VARs of other parts of the installation.
