AB2005
Dear all, What is the difference between Encoder and Resolver. I have found this term in the drawing of an Italian machine where they have shown this "Resolver" in a Servo motor as feed back equipment. It has also two channels A and B. Is it only a term or a different thing which I don't know? "Don't assume any thing, always check/ask and clear yourself".
jraef
A resolver is an older analog version of what we would now use an encoder for. Encoders are digital devices and require interpretation, i.e. computing power, where a resolver required transformation of the signal and was maybe a little more subject to signal drift. But if your machine was designed to use a resolver, you cannot use an encoder without changing other elements. "He's not dead, he's just pinin' for the fjords!"
