Motor Breaking Systems

Recommended Posts

Hello boby

I presume that you are referring to the coil on a "brake motor".

Most of these motors have an electrically released brake which comprises spring loaded brake pads, that in the unpowered state, apply full brake capacity to the motor. When full voltage is applied to the brake coil, the brake is released and the motor is free to spin.

The coil voltage should be marked on the name plate, but is commonly phase neutral voltage, or phase - phase voltage to make control of the brake easy.

Best regards,
