Sb1234
I need to design protection for a 3000 kw,11kv slip ring induction motor . for the same size of motor we provide differential protection to motor for cage rotor motor . Is it similar in case of slip ring motor. Is it coventional to provide differential protection for slip ring motors . Is the diff protection arrangement similar to that of a cage rotor motor . Any help is welcome . regards

Protection of the rotor windings is a completely different subject. Most people acknowledge that protecting the Stator windings will indirectly protect the Rotor windings as well, because if anything goes wrong in the Rotor, it is seen in the Stator. But I have seen people insist on separate protection for Rotor windings. It is difficult to do however. My opinion is that if you are going to use Differential Protection on the Stator, that is far superior to most motor protection and will do a great job at protecting the Rotor. I do not need to design for the protection of kilowatt-3000, 11kv slip ring induction motors. For the same engine size or different size of motor 13.8 kv 9.5 MW or 11.5 MW, we must provide differential protection to the engine rotor squirrel cage. Is it coventional to provide protection for the differential drives a slide. Must put the protection of the rotor member through roto portection, 50/51 over current, is the protection to those in a motor rotor winding. Any help is welcome.
