Abhay
Dear All, Hello, i am looking for any references for putting VFD for centrifugal compressors. Has any one done this application with any VFD? My customer wants to maintain the starting current around 100 to 110 %. Can we drop the frequency with auto loop with Pressure transmitter giving control to the VFD? The rating is 410 KW / 600 KW and 650 KW motors, at 2970 rpm and 415 VAC supply / 50 hz. Thanking you, awaiting your reply at the earliest. Best regards, Abhay Upadhye MIFA SYSTEMS Ahmedabad India
marke
Hello Abhay Welcome to the forum This is done very commonly these days as a means of increasing the operating efficiency of screw compressors and the like. Rather than off load the compressors and keep them operating at full speed, the speed is reduced and operates on demand in the same way that a pump control system operates. The reduction in speed reduces the losses in the system. The reduction in start current is another advantage in many installations. Best regards, Mark. Dear Mark, Thanks for your reply and welcoming me to the forum, well i appreciate your reply and inputs, we are system integrator for Yaskawa for last 15 years and have done lots of applications including compressors, but all the time we have given drives on reciprocating or scroll compressors. we had a real lengthy discussion with the designers of Centrifugal compressor manufacturers and all of them are opposing that the speed of this type of compressor can not be dropped?!! We are very confident that dropping the speed between certain band will not cause any harm, but those people are reluctant on the subject, thus i wanted to know that if anyone has done a specific speed reduction job on Centrifugal compressors with any make VFD; so once we have any reference on the subject we can take up the issue with the supplier, our end user is very keen to do so, but he will also have to have permission from the supplier of the compressor or there could be warranttee issues which he would not like to jeopardise. Thanking you and waiting for your reply. With best regards, Abhay Upadhye MIFA SYSTEMS www.mifasystems.com
