Urgent! Need Help With 50hz/6zhz Issue

Hi there fellas.

I really need your help in resolving this issue. One of the machines my factory ordered has a power of 380v 50hz whereas the power in the factory is 380v 60hz. Since the difference is not of voltage but of frequency, how will the machine work in such circumstances? And if it is not advisable to run it so, what are my options? Are there some kind of converters available and how much do they cost?

Hello phaser

As the voltage remains the same, but the frequency is increased, the result will be that all AC motors will run 20% faster and be able to deliver lower torque due to reduced flux in the iron.

In some cases, increasing the speed by 20% will cause the motors to be severely overloaded. Especially in the cases of pumps and fans.

The motors can be slowed down by the addition of a VFD set to operate at 50Hz rather than 60Hz.

Contactors and relays should be checked also as they will also be under fluxed if they have an AC coil and this could reduce contact pressure and cause them to fail.

If there are power factor correction capacitors fitted (unlikely), they will also draw 20% more current than they should and result in overcorrection.

Best regards,

Mark.

How much motors installed with this machine and what are their ratings? You can install VFDs and then program V/HZ ratio according to your requirement. The cost is depending upon the rating and quantity of motors.
