berniev
What are the disadvantages of water cooled motors? I am planning to install 8 x 1,000hp water cooled motors in a pump station. The medium is potable water and the pumps will be controlled by vfd's. What are the maintenance problems compared with air cooled motors? The cooling water will be taken from the discharge side of the pumps, through the motors and back to the suction side. How long do the cooling pipes generally last and is cathodic protection necessary with 4160V supply? Are water cooled motors more difficult to work on? Are there any other reliability issues? Thanks, BernieV
