cjo_28_Chris
Hello, everyone. I have a quick question: Is it possible to convert a single speed, 1.5 HP, pool pump to a two-speed or variable speed pump? The pump has brushes, it is rated at 120V and 60 hz. Best regards. marke
Hello Chris Welcome to the forum. If the motor has brushes, it will be a "universal motor" and you will be able to control the torque, and thereby speed, by reducing the voltage applied to it. This could be done by the use of a tapped transformer, or a variable transformer or a solid state AC voltage controller. The solid state controller would be a phase controlled triac rather like a large light dimmer.
