Simple Motor Control?

Hello,

 

I am by no means the motor control guru, but I'd like to get someone's opinion on the following:

 

I'd like to use a 1hp motor (or similar) to be used to spin a basket, possibly directly mounted on the shaft. I'd like to be able to have a simple way of starting it, as well. Maybe even a soft start.

 

Essentailly, I am thinking of a similar "control" scheme as my table saw, just a motor with an on/off starter.

 

Can you point me in the direction of a way to pick an induction motor with the proper on/off starter?

 

And then, it is that tough to add some kind of soft start mechanism to that?
